The Jukjang craft became popular after the late Joseon Dynasty cause of the complex factors of Min Younghwan’s blood bamboo incident.


Jukjang crafts made of Ojuk were on their way to export to other places as more people were looking for it.

Jukjang crafts of Ojuk require very meticulous work. However, the workshops were turning into factories and products started to become mass-produced. Which meant that the craftsmanship in detail lessened.

In the case of pasting by using the traditional adhesive glue considered pressing the Ojuk well to prevent it from falling off the object. It is the way to strengthen it with the adhesive force so that it can be used as a beautiful craft for a long time. That was the main reason for using it.

 Due to the lack of manpower, apprentices were not as skilled as craftsmen. They were trained for a short amount of time.  The most important step in making Jukjang crafts was to attach the Ojuk to the object with adhesive.


It is said that when the container box was loaded with crafts. The crafts were already damaged while exporting, even before the crafts arrived on site. The moisture and humidity had weakened the Jukjang crafts of Ojuk to fall off and did not adhere properly.


Jukjang crafts had received negative public opinions, loss of quality in product .
