Ⅰ. Materials
√ Harvesting and Drying
Craftsman Choe Seonhui, who is making Ojuk crafts with Gongyeedam,
collected 5 years more aged Ojuk.
It takes more than 5 years for the drying process,
it prevents the bamboo from deforming unevenly with the changes
in temperature and humidity for long periods of time.
We are trustful skills on the basics, starting from preparing craft materials.
The color of the Ojuk becomes darker as if it were tanned when exposed to sunlight.
The craftsman Choe Seonhui turns the Ojuk evenly to dry it as it is used.
√ Ojuk Root
The Ojuk roots that sprout from the ground is partly used to the limitation of growth.
Ojuk itself is design, it does not require any special processing, because of its unique shape and color.

Ⅱ. Technique
“Korean ‘Jukjang’ is a craft made with Ojuk as the main material. It is known that it has only been handed down only in Korea. Since it was made by using natural colors, 80-90% of the process is still made by hand. Due to the aesthetic value is highly evaluated, but the manufacturing process is very complicating...”

The Jukjang technique is a technique that
cuts bamboo and make use of the natural pattern on the surface.
The cut piece is paste it into pieces on the backbone (box),
and the process is known to be very difficult.
The ‘Classic Strap’ of Yido bag classic is made by applying this ‘Jukjang’ technique.
You can enjoy the color of Ojuk as it is,
and feel the unique ‘Jukjang’ technique handed down in Korea.

Artisan Choe Seon-Hui, works of the Gongyeedam’s Ojuk Collection, started as a student of the 15th Intangible Cultural Heritage of Seoul Master Yoon Byung-hoon since 1986 and became the successor of the 15th Intangible Cultural Heritage of Seoul.
For more than 30 years, the activity of transmitting Ojuk crafts continues on.
In 2008, she was awarded for ‘Jukjang Gyeongsang’ at the 33rd Korean Traditional Handicraft Competition of Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
In 2009, she was selected as the master of Ojuk craft skills(2009-2).
Artisan Choe Seon-hui who has been operating the Hyeonjeong Ojuk Workshop since 2004, is currently training juniors at the Kyunggi University of Lifelong Continuing Education Center and engaged in various activities as a craftsman of Ojuk crafts.

Yido Bag Classic’s unique Ojuk strap can be worn as a shoulder, cross body bag, or clutch style.
The strap is detachable so it can be used as a necklace.

*It is a craft made of black bamboo, ‘Ojuk’, and the shape of the nodes of the tree is not uniform. So, each shape and feel of the bag is slightly different and unique.
