The special coziness that can only be felt in the Ojuk Forest

Ⅰ. Production story
1. Black bamboo, Ojuk, that’s only harvested during the winter
When we think of bamboo, we generally think of cool weather. However, it’s only harvested during the winter.
▶ When
Between winter solstice and first day of spring, generally in January or February
▶ Reason
Bamboo shoots start to grow in the early spring and hold a lot of water while they grow until the autumn season. Bamboo holds the least amount of moisture around winter solstice, making it very hard. This is why bamboo is cut and harvested around this time of year.
2. The coziness of a bamboo forest during winter
The image of master craftsman Choe Seon-Hui harvesting Ojuk in the middle of the winter reminded us of the cold, but cozy Ojuk forest. We thought the warm feeling of a cancel would go well with the ambiance of an Ojuk forest. That’s how we came up with idea of a tealight candle holder in the shape of a Ojuk Forest.

3. Bamboo branches that have been remade into an Ojuk forest
Ojuk branches are rarely used in Jukjang crafts, a traditional crafting technique used to decorate objects, but they are used often in Sotdae and other similar crafts.
Just like the Ojuk stem, we thought the Ojuk branches, with their own unique colors and angled shapes, had more than enough beauty to be displayed and appreciated.
We thought there may be new ways to use Ojuk branches in craftwork and decided to use them in creating our Ojuk Forest.

Ⅱ. Characteristics
1. Decorative function: The density of Ojuk
When Ojuk is placed too densely together, Ojuk’s special color and shape becomes less visible.

That’s why we’ve decided to lower the density of the Ojuk placement and make the special characteristics of Ojuk more visible.

2. Lighting function: LED tealight (for all versions) / LED wire (for Starry Ojuk Forest only)
- We placed a LED tealight candle (included) in order to recreate the coziness of a real Ojuk forest. There are many different types of LED tealight candles available on the market, so you can replace the included tealight candle for one of your choosing.

- We’ve added a LED wire to create an Ojuk forest under a starry night sky.
You can wrap the LED wire around the ‘Starry Ojuk Forest’ and enjoy the ambiance of an Ojuk forest under a starry night sky.
A battery compartment has been added within the bottom panel so that the battery is not visible but easily exchangeable.

3. Portability
- A round handle made of Ojuk has been added so that Ojuk Forest can be easily carried and placed in the desired place.
