[Vintage] Tabletop Drinking Game Set
A tabletop drinking game set used in social gatherings, where a die is rolled and a cup is selected accordingly for drinking. Crafted during the Showa period (1926–1989), this vintage piece features various scenic motifs rendered in gold decoration on a lacquered surface.

Showa Vintage Tabletop Drinking Game Set
This set is a vintage piece produced
in mid-20th century Japan during the Showa period,
reflecting the atmosphere of travel destinations at the time.
Created within the trend of tourist lacquerware,
it was designed not as a formal craft object,
but to offer small moments of enjoyment to its users.
Imagine the playful drinking culture of the time—rolling a die
and selecting a cup based on the result to share a drink.
Beyond a simple object, it carries the mood
and shared moments of those gathered around it.
Form
When the cups are neatly stacked and covered,
they come together into a single, organic form.
More than simple storage, it is composed to appear
as a sculptural object even when at rest.
Gold Decoration
Inside each cup, scenic motifs
such as Mt. Fuji, bridges, and boats are expressed
through gold decoration.
Drawing from maki-e–style embellishment seen in Japanese lacquerware,
it reflects the poetic composition characteristic of the period.
Material
The box is labeled as wood, however based on its weight and surface quality,
the piece is presumed to be lacquered synthetic resin.
